Platform shoes
I was having a very material conversation one day with a friend of mine, and she pointed out to me the reoccurring style of the platform heel. At first I hadn't realize how common this style was in shoe stores, but thankfully it was brought to my attention. I mean it is everywhere. I can bet any amount of money that if you walk into a mall and search the shoe stores that you are guaranteed to find a pair of these shoes I speak of. Now in moderation I don't mind the shoes, but they are appearing in almost all of the runway shows I have viewed. Take for instace the John Galliano shoes above. Beautifully designed. I would love to have these in my closet. I can picture myself wearing these out on a Saturday night with the girls. Somehow I just can't shake the vision that I have seen these before. Not the exact shoe of course, but the overall construction, and framework. That's one thing about fashion though, like history, it definately repeats itself.

I love the new pumps that also have the platform. The ones where the platform is covered by the material the shoe is in are ultra sexy. Loves!
ReplyDeleteYea those are pretty nice I think. Perhaps they are supposed to help with the level of comfort. It;s just the fact that they are everywhere that grabs my attention. They are heels nontheless so I'm already sold.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love platforms. I had my first pair way way back -- you know, the first time platforms came around. (I also had a pair of go-go boots and a gold sequined pantsuit, so there you go. Love the 70s!) Anyway, those shoes were black patent leather. Very shiny with white stitching all around the toe and straps. They squeaked when I walked and the sole was very slippery. Or slippy, since this is Pittsburgh and I'm a native.
ReplyDeleteI shouldn't have been wearing them, of course. I might have been 7 or 8, if that, and I'd been born with terribly clubbed feet. That means I spent a lot of time in corrective shoes. This explains my ongoing semi-adolescent affair with Doc Martens, I guess. But the platforms.
I must have begged my parents long enough that they gave in and let me have these as a dress-up treat. The first time I put them on, though, I tumbled down the stairs. Which is what I do a lot even now.
Platforms look like they'd be easy to walk in -- all that plump -- but a clutz is a clutz is a clutz, and women like me should stay low to the pavement.
Sigh. What beautiful shoes. What beautiful beautiful shoes.
I would definitely take a pair of Uggs over platforms any day, but when I do go with a high heel it usually always has at least a small platform, I think they're easier to walk in/more comfortable than a stiletto!
ReplyDeleteThat's a very interesting story. I think that between 7 or 8 most girls are playing dress up and trying on their mother's shoes. I know I did. It is true that some women have to take extra caution when wearing heels. They can be very dangerous if not worn properly. The best thing to do is to find the height (if any at all) that is best for you.
ReplyDeleteMy mom never had a lot of high heels when I was little playing dress up. I think that's why I have so many now... that and I'm on 5 foot 2. I love my stilettos but one of my fav pairs are black with 4 inche heels with a small platform. they are much more comfy.
